In case you are wondering what the above is all about, it relates to a truly exciting phenomonon that whether you like it or not, whether you are willing to accept it or not, is here to stay. That phenomonon is the World Wide Web. It is an aspect of the Internet or the Super Information Highway, as the media likes to call it, that is going to change our lives. The linking that is taking place across the world is something that in my opinion is going to change the way we think about business and computing in general. Everytime I turn on the tv or read a newspaper all I hear about is the Internet. TV programs and newspapers give you their Email addresses now instead of their mailing addresses for audience response. One of the reasons this phenomonon is catching on quickly is the fact that it is easy. It is not only easy, but it is so chock full of information and resources that it is almost impossible to imagine. The complete Library of Congress and The Louvre Museum in Paris, added to the complete National Library of Medicine is about a one millionth of what is available on the World Wide Web. Whats more, this is probably a major understatement. As you can see by my enthusiasm I am so excited by all of this that I have been spending much of my time "Surfing the Net" as it is called. I also spend almost all of my time on the WWW because of its ease of use and its speed of traveling through systems. I have downloaded color pictures from the Louvre Museum in Paris. I have researched about medical conditions for myself and family members. In fact I even downloaded video and audio clips from movie archives in other parts of the world. The technological age that is unfolding before our eyes is so awesome that it will change society as much as the automobile and telephone did a century ago. One of you might ask me what does this have to do with Real Estate and the way I make my living. I'll answer that question in one sentence. The Real Estate resources on the Web are extensive. There are databases popping up with properties for sale all across the world so fast that it has relocation companies shaking in their boots. In fact anyone with a PC can access the whole system. I would go so far as to say that anyone that has a PC and a phone line is automatically plugged into the biggest network of all. This will make the way we now think about computers a thing of the past. In the last week I have communicated with people in Europe, Asia, and all over the continental United States. I am presently advertising my listings to 30 million or more people at a cost of $19.95 a month. Sounds too good to be true. Well in the next year or two this will be commonplace. The real estate industry is being changed by the Internet in a way that can truly benefit all of us as salespeople. We are now able to communicate with potential customers and clients in a way we never imagined. A buyer that is considering a move to our local area only has to click on New Mexico and view for himself a brief about houses as well as color pictures. When he has interest in contacting a particular agent it is as simple as another click and he can send that agent Email. Of course it will never replace the actual human contact that is necessary to consumate a transaction, but the initial communication and the way we obtain out of town buyers as well as helping sellers move out of our area will change completely. Also, if you think things aren't changing the way I am saying, ask your children about computers. When your little one's know about all of this stuff in grade school, its time to sit up and take notice. Also if you want to insure your longevity in this business, its time to get started with your education.
