Baltic Viking Boot
The Baltic Viking Boot is based on the "York shoe" is also from "Stepping through Time,
Archaeological Footwear from Prehistoric Times until 1800" and is
similar to the Dorestad and Woodbridge shoe and is classified as an Overlap Closure
(type 20) turn shoe. Found in York, England, the original settlement was Viking
and named Jorvik. Found on both the British Isles and the European Continent
dates from the 9th and 10th centuries. The Viking Jorvik Boot is
the best representation of Dark Ages, Anglo Saxon, and migration period footwear.
This is a revision pattern (this boot did not exist) but
is very similar to boots that did. I imagine this boot as a Russ Viking
Boot. This version is
welted and and set up for modern comfort. Each of these Viking is made of 3 to 4 oz top grain
cow hide leather or equivalent, artificial mid-soles, crepe soles, all sewing is
machine overstitched, and the toggles are held by toggles looped through
slits in the side of the shoe. This shoe is always in stock!
The Baltic Viking boot is perfect for Viking living
history, historical reenactments groups, Hastings, and the SCA.
Available in Men's and Women's sizes, the Viking
Boot comes in Brown only and is $195.
